Yes BP's corner cutting has redefined "fail safe". Prior to this, fail safe meant that if a hurricane knocks a rig off a well, the well's equipment would automatically shut off the flow at the sea floor. Now that BP move that definition to - if a moron runs the rig and blows it up, the subsea equipment still has to work automatically. The industry will do that and oil will get more expensive than where it would have been had BP engineers used common sense.

Chevron has publicly stood up tell say BP was being really stupid. Others will follow.
