Maybe AMD should spend a few more billions and purchase IDT? AMD has spent around $2 billion on FAB 25, and will spend over a billion on the Dresden, Germany FAB that is to be dedicated to producing the K6 and future generations. Plus they paid $500 million for NexGen. All that money spent and they still can't ramp production! That's were the best laid but overly agressive plans apparently have fallen apart. That's where the genious of the C6 becomes more clear. Keep the part streamlined, reduce and refine the architecture, optimize it toward the most popular OS (Windows), and use simplified manufacturing proceses. KISS- Keep It Simple Stupid.
