Sorry to say that I've never seen the Nighthawks, and I don't think I ever saw Grin (though it's possible - back in the late 60's, the Georgetown bars had their "house bands", and Grin may have been one of them. At some point, I probably hit most of them for a beer or two after a show at the Door). I'm sure you know that the bassist who usually plays with the Nighthawks these days is the same who played with Kirchen's Too Much Fun at the Sunset Grille, Johnny Castle. That Grin tune reminded me of another high-energy song from the era: youtube.com
