Tom

For one thing, BP shareholders are not all retirees and retired shareholders don't deserve better treatment than those who are not retired. Most BP shares are held by institutions.

Next you will be talking about widows and orphans.<g>

Shareholders are part owners of the company. They are entitled to share in the good fortunes of the company but they must also accept their share of the costs of the misfortunes.

I got into this at the end of last week, buying both the stock (CLH) and January call options. No need to explain why, I think.

Hi tom,

My point was, investors get the dividend later by accepting the risk up front.

If things get much worse, BP will need to hire Goldman Sachs for training on how to qualify for one of Obama's bailouts.
