Until very recently, BP's strategy for dealing with the effects of their well blow-out appear to have all been predicated upon maintaining support for their original misrepresentation of the magnitude of the oil spill, rather than actually recovering the oil released.

BP has had continuous access to the resources of Marine Spill Response Corp and equipment from the oil industry's sister co-op in Alaska, Clean Seas. But the industry co-ops and other major oil firms have no legal authority to impose their assistance upon BP.
