No, BBB, that isn't my understanding. NXTL has 3:1 digital cellular and 6:1 direct connect using tdma. That means that phone usage gives three times the capacity of analog and 2 way radio gives six times the capacity of analog. CDMA offers greater capacity.
The reason NXTL fell off the perch several years ago is that MOT's digital cellular 6:1 iDEN bombed. Big time. So MOT went back to the drawing board and reduced the horsepower to 3:1 on the cellular side. They solved the immediate problem but cut the capacity in half. It's my view that MOT will find a way to provide 6:1 cellular when it's needed. Keep in mind that cdma has a capacity advantage over iDEN tdma, thus cdma spectrum should be more valuable for obvious reasons. It's not an issue for NXTL for 10 years or so but it is something to keep in mind.
