True, but I kinda doubt he's right. If 'scientists' knew/thought this was going to cause a tsunami that would wipe out Florida or whatever, surely a few of them would be brave enough to defy Obama. For that matter, I would think Obama would want to get people out of there before he gets blamed for millions of deaths, etc ...

btw, getting back to something I was wondering about the other day ... assuming that guy is right about "several billion barrels" eventually being released, and assuming by several he meant 6.289, that would equal 1 cubic kilometer of oil ...

unitconversion.org

Given that the volume of the world's oceans is 1.37 billion cubic kilometers ...

hypertextbook.com

That would mean contamination of less than 1 part per billion. Not nice for the gulf, but hardly catastrophic for the ocean as a whole.

I don't think that steam pressure would generate a tsunami -- that implies an impulse of lifting force (like a nova) of incredible magnitude. I don't think the star/nova model is anywhere near appropriate.

But whatever... it's an unmitigated disaster and certainly has the potential to play out far worse that we collectively admit, and there is the potential for any number of surprises -- all to the downside unfortunately because the upside surprise was that they didn't do this sooner and that really doesn't matter now, does it?
