I think the IBM stock purchase was a lot like the "rescues" of the market in 1929 and in fact represents a distribution of capital to smart sellers.

Since there is nothing new under the sun, we are doomed to repeat history. Not exactly the same way but usually in a similar pattern. It is amazing that so many of these "sayings" have their basis in people from the past experiencing the same repetitions.
