And where we may not be independent of international oil, if we only bought from Canada and Mexico, we would still be limiting the amount of money that we send to hostile countries like those in the mideast and venezuela. As long as we import any oil. Really as long as we use any oil, supply from outside the US, Canada, and Mexico will effect us, and our demand will effect it. Even if we got all our oil from North America, reductions in supply from elsewhere would drive up our price. Increases in our demand would drive up the price Venezuela and countries in the middle east get. There is a world market for oil. Which does not mean I'm against opening more areas to drilling, far from it, I'm not one to leave valuable resources unused without a very good reason. But the idea of oil independence even on the scale of North America, rather than just the US, is less realistic, and less meaningful, than many seem to believe.

In the past two years my role has grown to include all energy applications. " You could be selling toilet paper....what is your product, any conflict of interest?? "What do you base this on? France gets about 85% of their electricity from Nuclear. With more electric cars, they could be a truly green economy. So could we." I'm not talking about France, I'm talking about USA.... "By lifting the restrictions on oil production (drilling), the US could produce a much higher percentage." Again, let's see your numbers....talk is cheap.
