In my opinion, MKC is a very good long term dividend growth stock.

If a stock yields less than 3%, I want to see a double digit compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) and a payout ratio under 50%.

MKC meets this criteria and also has a long history of raising those dividends, plus they have a nice piece of market share on a product we all use daily, if we eat. <g>

i bot mkc a few months back, and have been very pleased.....i use a lot of their spices and am more interested in their history of staying alive in the past 110 yrs than their "boring" div increases!!
also bot pm, nestle, and cme(i know cme is not much of a div play) but 1.5% for a growth co. isn't bad!!!

Tom... rules of thumb for the divvy increase portion of the PF (vs. the current high yield but not yield growth) for me are 3% w/10% increases, but those are just starting points.

One utility I don't see mentioned often, but interests me is EXC.

WR is also worth a look.

I have SRE because it is local, has good pipeline exposure as well as LNG.

Re: MKC ... If I didn't already own the number of stocks I do, MKC would be one I would strongly consider. Morningstar says it's a buy.

I like dividend players that just plug along without much flash to the upside or downside. Just keep paying the dividend and let your share price grow gradually so I can reinvest the dividends.

Two of my favorite stocks at doing this are SYY and D. MKC is right there with them.

I'm not talking capital gains, my O has done better. I'm talking a lack of volatility with a steady eddie stock.
