My interest is not in being able to call myself a "centrist" within the current spectrum.... but rather to develop - for myself - an understanding of which political principles work best. It seems to me that the greatest problem faced by societies is finding optimal limits to the power of their governments. America's founders found such a balance, and it worked well for a long time, but by now it's eroded. Both our major political parties, in every issue, tend to "err" on the side of interventionalism - and therefore, expansion of government. The Dems may be more at fault in this respect, but the GOP ain't no knight in shining armor either.
