Very interesting.
Anything where MONEY is bet is ripe for "arrangements."

I knew a high school/college referee who told me he was instructed before games not to call fouls on certain players. He got quite upset as he told me about that. He eventually gave up refereeing. He said the further you as a referee [higher level college games, the pros] the more you have to agree to go along with the program.

Horse racing is easy to fix.

Boxing has been a farce since the bald-faced Liston-Ali fakes.

Denny McClain bet heavily. When he couldn't pay what he owed at one point, those he bet with broke bones in his feet and he never pitched the same again. The most dangerous and violent part of the mob are those who run betting. They explain that they have to be or word will get out that they are soft and their business is over.

The officiating has long looked rigged on both the pro and collegiate level to stretch out playoff series or to get the right teams into matchups to maximize TV revenue. They can be counted on to help the home teams and to keep the games close by helping the teams make comebacks. It get fans in the stands and keep them in the arenas till the end of the game.
