Let me repeat that:
BP HAS A FAR WORSE RECORD ON SAFETY VIOLATIONS IN THE U.S. THAN ALL THE OTHER OIL COMPANIES PUT TOGETHER BY FAR.
Think about that for a while, and you will understand why the American people are angry with BP. They treated our coastline with callous disregard, not to mention the lives of their workers. Ya gotta love a guy like that....come on BBC! Report Recommend babyfacemagee Yesterday 07:18 PMRecommended by 9 peopleFor all you Bush bashers out there...there's no doubt Bush would have handled the BP affair better than Obama. First of all, Bush was the American President to hold an MBA and to have actual real world experience running a large scale business. The first thing he would have done would have been to call up all his old CEO pals of major oil firms and put together a crack team of experts to figure out the best way to stop this leak. The public sector doesn't have this knowledge or expertise...only private sector companies do.
At this late date...well over 50 days into this leak Obama STILL hasn't done this. There has been no reaching out to corporate executives at major american oil corporations to get the best and brightest minds working on this problem. This shows the huge flaw in electing an 'academic' to the office of President rather than a pragmatic businessman. It was said during the election...and it's being said again now...Obama has NO executive experience. He's like a smarmy grade A student that has no real world experience working with business people in the real world.
This is why so many people were concerned with voting for him regardless of his pleasant demeanor. Bright smiles and smooth talking don't make a leader. Experience leading does. He has no such experience and is 'learning on the job'.
Many americans agree that he has made the US appear weak to the world with all this apologizing and bending over backwards to kiss all the world's arse. Since Obama's been in office, North Korea has sunk a South Korean ship, Russia has annexed part of Giorgia, Iran is inches away from having a nuke, Hamas and Hezbollah have gained strength and are a threat to Israel because the muslim world views Obama as weak, china has reasserted itself on the world stage and feels immune from Washington.
Nobody in the world believes Obama has the backbone to stand up to them or to commit american force or even diplomacy to stand up for freedom. We need to get Obama out of office and get a strong leader into the Presidency. when America is seen as weak, the tyrants and dictators of the world see room to advance themselves. When America is strong and proactive, the tyrants stay in check. That's reality. The best defense...is a strong offense. Yes, some of our right wing media like the Daily Mail, Express and Telegraph are not happy with Obama attacking BP for damaging UK pension funds, but I don't think hardly any UK citizens have a problem with him.
In fairness, BP (and Halliburton) have pretty much destroyed caused the worst environmental disaster ever. I can understand why Obama and the American people are angry.
The posters on here are just looking for chinks in Obama's armour to attack him. If he didn't attack BP, you'd all be calling him a traitor and a British poodle. He can't really win.
The UK does not have a problem with Barack Obama, we're just relieved to see the back of George dubyah Bush. (Edited by author 5 hours ago) Report Recommend james_b Yesterday 09:51 PMRecommended by 4 peopleThe back of George dubyah Bush (i.e., his arse) is a helluva lot smarter than the front of Barack Hussein Obama. You want to stay in love with this d-bag, go ahead. In fact, why don't you do your American cousins a favor and take him off our hands? Send Odumbo and his teleprompter down to Speaker's Corner and let him bloviate all day, for all I care. Maybe he'll do less harm there. Report Recommend Mad_John Yesterday 10:19 PMWe're fine james, I'm happy enough with our liberal conservative coalition, although they've got one hell of a job to do sorting out New Labour's spending mess.
It's intriguing to see the political differences between the UK and the US, even between 'conservatives'.
I'm not looking to score cheap points against Republicans, but I don't understand how you can have someone like George W Bush as President. He isn't articulate, has awful presentation skills and he wouldn't last five minutes in the UK. Bush snr and Clinton I can understand, but not Bush jnr. Report Recommend abudabit Yesterday 04:47 PMRecommended by 1 person I love how in the UK press it is perfectly ok to demonize and even witch hunt the financial industry but for some reason BP is a sacred cow. There was a time when I considered the modern British to be more objective and intelligent than the typical resident of this globe, but emotional and dumbed down nationalism has reigned supreme in the UK once again.
Guess what guys? BP has accrued a lot of liabilities over this debacle, and as much as I dislike Obama he is not the reason for that. The BP stock is tanking because they are bleeding money as this oil continues to spill. Regardless of Obama's interference the liability for lost income, property damages, environmental damages, and loss of life are going to be at least $100 billion. Given that oil companies operate on a margin of 4% during the best of times, that seems worthy of a stock sell off. Some simple objective evaluation of the situation would make that plain as day.
And if British pensioners are owners of a company that has incurred liabilities.... guess what.... the value of their ownership goes down. If you can't handle the realities of business ownership then you shouldn't own a company. Report Recommend beefbeefbeef Yesterday 12:03 PMRecommended by 6 peopleBP is still majority British-owned (although over 40% US-owned) and it doesn't surprise me that Obama is looking for someone to blame. He is a politician after all.
Obama was always going to be a difficult "sell" for middle America. They like their presidents to be gun-toting cowboys (Bush, Reagan). But from a UK perspective, he is a more convincing character than the current crop of dross in our parliament.
