Not true. All of the maintenance, oil changes, and an order of magnitude more moving parts in an ICE car outweigh the total cost of ownership of the battery in an EV.

The cost for batteries will come down and the range issue will be resolved. I'd say we aren't there yet. However, it's simply ignorant to claim that it will never happen and that we should not invest in our future, which is a shift away from oil.

That is simply catering to GOP talking points instead of trying to solve this country's problems with real solutions.

Hell, several folks on this thread have talked about the Pickens plan as the solution. I agree whole-heartedly. An NG/electric hybrid alone would make us oil independent.

The solutions are there. It's just a lack of political will to make it happen. Claiming that the solutions don't exist is just plain ignorance and we almost always see that ignorance coming from the GOP.

A gal's Prius battery went out here. $6k for a replacement. She had to roll the dice for a used one w/o guarantee and is "hoping" her $3k fix will work.

If she had bought a higher MPG Honda or Corolla instead of the Broke-us she would be about 20k ahead right now...

Not only that, instead of replacing our dependence on foreign oil, they'd make us dependant on foreign lithium for the batteries. I think Evo Morales in Ecuador and Hugo Chavez in the People's Republic of Venezuela are sitting on the biggest stashes, they're reliable sources, right?<G>
