You may have looked into it already, however it may be worth a re-visit if you have time this weekend... I'd suggest some due diligence on Precious Metals. I also have a high cash balance due to similar reasons as you, but do not approach 100% due to PM holdings (paper + physical).

Precisely. We always hold positions, either by choice or by default. Cash is also a position.

Sometimes I feel nostalgic about the days when I lived from paycheck to paycheck, and life was simple. But - I was young, and that was OK. At this stage, I'd rather worry about money and investments than about the survival of Social Security.... :)
