Stewart is an idiot who other idiots think is politically astute. The Rs who forced Barton to back down are spineless pieces of crap IMO. Barton was exactly right -- EXCEPT that he made the mistake of believing the president's BS claim that he FORCED BP to do anything. BP, out of desperation, is caving to the government to try and preserve some kind of public face in this country. Which obviously isn't working. Unless they are ultimately shown to have been mishandling the situation at the well (which hasn't happened yet), they would have been better off standing up to Obama and explaining how they are responsible, but not at FAULT, for the leak.
