because that's the rule however I don't think that was a penalty,,,def was not intentional

what rule ?

let's see....

the referee decides it is a hand ball, (i agree). the aussie defender had his arm extended AND his hand interfered with the soring of a gol.... therefore, it is a penalty... (hand ball interfering with a direct goal play)

there is no reference in the rule book as to how to apply a yellow or red card.... (specifically related to a hand ball) it appears it is all left to the discretion of the referee, based on INTENT. (see page 32 under law 12 fouls and misconduct)

fifa.com.

therefore....

penalty is good... but there was NO UNSPORTING behavior... no reason for a red card.... (see page 34 cautionable events of the above document)

p.s. unless this red car bs 'rule' is something implemented on the fly for THIS WC. which i would assume there would be some mentioning of it in the fifa website.....
