The analysis is pretty good, but it's somewhat apocalyptic. I believe there are many sources of oil besides crude oil. For example, in the Middle East, the primary source of oil was olive oil for many centuries. If we can power our cars with something other than gasoline, like Natural Gas and battery electricity, then we can harvest bio-oil to provide for all of our remaining needs, including for food and for all the plastics we use.

The technology exists and is by and large cost competitive already. We just lack the political will.
