Ted, I too have a problem with the "shakedown" label. Usually that is reserved for the actions of lawyers going after small businesses for minor infractions.

What BP did wasn't a "minor infraction," nor is the impact negligible. Obama needs to secure the funds from BP, because litigation would be a b!tch for both sides.


Exactly. I can't imagine seeing it any other way.

I read today that BP has already spent $2B on this ..... what gets me is why claims needs to go through a WH appointee and why they need to specify an amount. I suspect this is another thing that will blow up in Obama's face ...... when people aren't happy about their compensation or about a claim being denied or reduced ... up till now they could blame BP .... from now on, they can blame the czar Obama put in place.
