I think the real big issue today is "still" globalization - and the fact that we cannot compete economically... and we are is denial about it. If you are in the widget business, and the guy down the block can sell them for a quarter of the price, you have a problem. You'll probably lose your livelihood. And if there is similarly severe competition in most other sectors, what do you do then? You can "redistribute" until the cows come home, or until there are no more cows, and it won't help a thing. Actually this imagery is pretty scary... it may take time, but this seems to be the trend. We need to wake up and start looking for possible solutions. That's the real situation, and in this context all the socialistic huffin' and puffin' coming from our "leadership" will not accomplish much. We need to become competitive again - instead, we are wasting resources on making our welfare nanny state into an ever greater monster.
