Friend Donny was on a troop carrier in WWII in the Pacific. There is a group that takes the old vets to DC to see the memorial. Picked him up at his door, bus to Springfield where they had a group that cheered them onto a 737 to DC. All food and lodging was covered plus travel. The only thing they could buy was souvenirs. Every thing else was comped. Wheel chairs and walker were on hand as were people to help out. Went to the memorial, changing of the guard at Arlington, several other sights. Bus to a 737 to Springfield and dropped off at his door. All private funds.
