This came as a surprise.....maybe not to you but to me.

TX-Gov: Tied up

PPP (PDF). 6/19-21. Likely voters. MoE 4.4% (2/4-7 results)

Rick Perry (R) 43 (48)
Bill White (D) 43 (42)

With an approval/disapproval rating of 36/49, Perry is suffering from voter fatigue. The GOP base may love his secessionist rhetoric -- and they still support him 69-14, but moderates are flocking to White by a 62-23 margin.

Taking the governor's race in Texas would help Democrats rhetorically offset losses elsewhere in the post-election narrative battle. What kind of anti-Democratic year gives us a Democratic governor in Texas, of all places?

The fact that the governor's race is in play suggests the dynamics are a bit more complicated than anti-Democratic sentiment.

Well, we do know they lied about how much oil was being released. Or, to be more precise, their either knew and lied about it, or they deliberately chose not to try to quantify the amount being lost and chose to publicize wild guesses.

We don't know any such thing. There is no evidence they had good numbers early on, and certainly, the federal government agreed with them.

When you talk about a "lie" you have to have some proof that somethign was a lie versus a mistake or a conservative estimate.

Which is minimal.
