Since there's a finite supply of fossil fuels, we're going to see prices moving up over time anyway. So it's sort of a self-correcting problem. But if we gradually increased the tax on oil until gasoline is $10/gal, what would be the real benefit? What is the advantage to us to do that to ourselves unilaterally? Hillary and McCain sure weren't happy about $4/gal in 2008.

Thanks to oil we have a huge trade imbalance. Nearly net a half trillion is leaving this country every year. That worries me more than the deficit.

IMO getting off an oil dependency is a worthy national goal for a number of reasons. I think its time.
