That could have been a voluntary position on their part?

No problem with that, what I do not understand is why did he let his staff go down with him?

At that level the GO gets to handpick his staff.
Before they accept, the staff knows their future is tied to the boss. The staff did not have to speak so openly to that reporter. That was an individual choice.

All of these men are patriots and our best warfighters.
All of them have been at war on behalf of the USA since 2001. Most before that. They are our best underfire. They do not lie to each other, and they know when they are not being adequately supported.

The problem here is not that Mc Spoke out. The real problem is that he spoke the truth. If Obama, Biden and Gates have hurt feelings, it will not be because Mc Lied; It will be because he let the truth expose them.

If Mc leaves, my fervent hope will be that he write a book exposing all the failures in the Iraq and Afganistan campaigns including the who and the why. Americans paid the bills in cash and blood. They deserve the whole truth.
