I'm not an expert on China, but I'm interested, and talking to friends who travel to China, including some who have business interests there, I get a feeling that they may not have any deliberate schemes and strategies, like "cheap labor model", etc. They take things as they come. That being the case, and considering that they still have enormous numbers of capable people who are anxious to acquire skills and join the workforce, the shock to the West may be indeed the length of time during which Chinese manufacturers may remain (to coin a term?) "supercompetitive".

No doubt that in time their wages will go up, but they may not go up or high and fast enough.
