Ted, > Think, Ten......all the roads, freeways and parking lots are a subsidy for cars. Its a very costly subsidy. So will be the "subsidies" (as you call it) for rail. Along with the "subsidies" for sidewalks and Tokyo-style urban living, which we will all have to endure if and when oil becomes scarce. We'll adapt. No big deal. Better to give people the freedom to do that than to force them into a future society that, frankly, is based on an anti-oil self-fulfilling prophesy. Tenchusatsu
