Yeah, but there's guys making and shipping the pipe they drill with, the mud, all their equipment, running the boats and helicopters to the rigs. Then there's the jobs depending on the workers incomes to pay their bills.

I still bet its not more than a few thousand.

What's wrong with the shutdown? Gotta make sure something bad like this doesn't happen again. Can't accept the industry's word that things will be "just fine" right now.

It's like grounding the planes in Europe because of the volcanic ash. Sure, it caused a ton of inconvenience (not to mention that Rolling Stone article on McChrystal), but imagine if one plane went down because of the ash. Then people would be asking why the planes weren't grounded sooner.

Better to be safe than sorry.
