Brumar, decisions like these are going to be politically motivated. Can't avoid that.

Six months is rather extreme, though. Like it or not, oil is still vital to our economy.

I've said it all along. Obama seems more concerned about lecturing us on our "addiction to oil" than cleaning up the spill or helping the economy get back on its feet.

Kind of sad that a judge has to come in and break the moratorium. Normally Obama should have the authority to do what he did, but it's hard for me to believe that he just did it without providing sound justification. Or even worse, provide "justifications" that can easily be shot down upon judicial review.

Of course, some in the media are now going after the judge for his oil investments. Never mind that Obama himself received tons of money from BP.

Seems like the political mess is just as nasty as the environmental one.

Its a big over-reaction. Equivalent to shutting down air traffic for six mos near major cities after 911.

The MMS is what needs to be shutdown and reviewed (not just changing their name) - they are the ones that failed to do the proper inspections or suggest new practices.

The New Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement (BOE) Web Site is Under Construction

Secretarial Order 3302, issued June 18, 2010 renames the Minerals Management Service to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation, and Enforcement (BOE). The name change is effective immediately.

We will be working over the next several days to make the appropriate changes to our web site. To visit the former MMS web site, click here.

Great - they're building a new web page - that'll make things so much better.
