Reagan stopped cold what could have been a fairly successful start to the weaning off oil process and we lost at least 15 years because of his policies. Bush 1 sat there, Clinton did a few minor things, but not too much as he had the right wing and the oil guys on his neck. Bush 2 made a few efforts as if he was going to help get us off oil or a least on an oil diet. Now that Obama is trying a few things the long knives are out. It is hard to make up for 28 years of inaction on the energy front in even four years. No matter what your politics everyone should support reducing our dependence on oil. Conservation and efficiency, pricing policies, technical energy development instead of incentives to get more fossil fuel, attention to climate change issues, a real debate instead of BS would be pleasant.
