"They're better than nothing. Don't like it? Don't have sex." The problem is they are not marketed that way. They are marketed as a way to have safe sex. If it were known ahead of time, you would not find it very satisfying, and that after a couple of 'safe' ventures many people abandon the practice for the more fleshy experience, people might not take the plunge in the first place. Then, safe sex would still be associated with the innocence of the monogamous.
