"What are corporations, other than an organization of individuals working toward the profitability of their shareholders?"

Souless artificial constructs, potentially immortal, that exist only to produce profit. The humans that perform their internal functions might as well be machines, and are quickly expelled and/or replaced by machines or other humans that can perform those functions more efficiently.

Corporations compete amongst themselves, with the more efficient defeating and sometimes killing the less. The peak of evolution for a corporation is becoming a monopoly, with no competitors.

"In a free society such as ours, we are only enslaved as much as we allow ourselves to be."

The corporations that control the media promote this illusion. The truth is, they easily keep us chasing our tails, unable to mount any effective changes.

If you need any proof, just look at the non-regulation of financial services in the pending financial regulation bill.

>What are corporations, other than an organization of individuals working toward the profitability of their shareholders?

Sorta, kinda... look up Carl Icahn and Thomas Lee.

>Individuals fight them by joining organizations, political action groups, unions, voting, publicizing, writing to their newspapers, web sites, all that stuff.

Yeah, but when the powerful can start to prevent them from exercising those rights by becoming so rich and powerful they can by the politicians, individuals are screwed.

>In a free society such as ours, we are only enslaved as much as we allow ourselves to be.

We ain't as free as you seem to think.
