As my kids get older (college age) I find still that some exchanges, even ones that make worried, bring a smile as you look back on the conversation.

First we never actually speak to our children. For some reason they would rather have a 30 minute typing text marathon then a 1 minutes actual conversation. Perhaps they worry they are going to give something away in their voice. Well the below "conversation" happened last night as our kids are home for Christmas break.

This is ALL text messaging....@ about 10PM

"Dad that was a COMPLETE waste of my time..........."

What is it that your doing during the break that is so pressing on your time?

"Well I need to see my friends, workout, buy christmas presents......"

OK BTW what time are you planning to be home?

"oh not late, BTW there might be a dead deer near the house"

Why!? and what do you mean, might?

"oh no reason"

So out of the blue there might be a dead deer near the house, but there is no reason?

"Yea, I just thought you might want to know"

Actually I would kind of like to know why you feel it neccessary to inform me that, for no reason, I might look around for a dead deer.

" Well when i was driving on our street.....out of the blue.....making sure no cars oncoming....tried to swerve.....and I think maybe I hit one."

Think? Im guessing you know perfectly well whether you hit it or not.

"ok I hit a deer"

In the end no damage, probably a glancing blow, no dead deer all ok, but I swear when i look back at this conversation..............
