<how about your thoughts on SMH

In general I think this is a very powerful semi cycle that is being underestimated because many are still thinking about the history of these cycles where you wanted to be in early and be out earlier. Those prior cycles were mainly PC related so it was very dependent on memory and microprocessors.

I think on top of a strong cyclical upturn this time we also have a significant secular growth trend on top of the cycle.

We all of a sudden have these tons of new gadgets like smart phones, ipads etc. that are very chip intensive. Also new types of auto engines and autos in general as well as things like smart grids are all now increasingly chip intensive. Most of these things have barely started so there will be this new secular growth element in chips for a long time.

While these gadgets are using a ton of flash memory so you see companies like SNDK doing great, much of the chips for these devices are analog chips. I'm personally not interested in an ETF for this but I do have some large investments in three chip or chip equipment stocks.

Since two of them are illiquid microcaps that are very hard to trade I won't mention them here but I did comment about them on that Wennerstrom Semi Equipment Analysis board in answer to a question.

In fact because there's nobody even on the Yahoo boards for my stocks that's why I came over to SI and found that board as a good place for semi info and discussion.

Since I was on SI for the first time in years I stopped over here and ended up in the big conversation about Brinker.

Since the semi's and semi equipment are all getting bounced around with every question about the strength of the economy going forward and of Europe they're currently being pushed around by these macro perceptions.

So again in terms of the sector I just want to be in a few select stock situations though based on what I said about the cycle you can factor that in if you agree and are looking for an ETF.
