Howard and others: How significant is the news that LSI will cut
capital expenditures by 50% in 1998 given that the Oregon facility is
nearly complete? Is the 50% cut a 50% reduction from 1998 plan or a 50% reduction from 1997? Please provide your thoughts.

An assessment of the capital cutbacks would be welcome....anyone, jump in. Capital will be short for new plants in the "Tiger" economies now. Design complexity has the potential to delay full migration to the lower Micron technologies. Desgin capability becomes more important than low production costs....where does it lead? Optimistic for LSI? We could bring Doug in at this point as well. I for one would love to get smarter...(a minimally easy task, actually) dlo
