I wasn't talking about using a long term indicator to time short term trades.

Even to somebody whose focus is the intermediate to long term, why would the WLI have any predictive value for stock prices if a main component of it is stock prices? That makes just another coincident indicator, as you pointed out.

If the argument is that over the intermediate to long term the WLI has predictive value for the economy, then you would also be arguing that stock prices have predictive value for the economy. Which is highly debateable.
