"Why are we there???

-----------
The goal set by Obama for US involvement in Pakistan/Afghanistan is:

"Our goal in Pakistan will be to ensure that al-Qa’ida is defeated and Pakistan remains stable."

"to disrupt, dismantle, and eventually defeat al-Qa’ida and to prevent their return to either Afghanistan or Pakistan."

The strategy for success Obama has set for the US is:

"To do so, we and our allies will surge our forces, targeting elements of the insurgency and securing key population centers, training Afghan forces, transferring responsibility to a capable Afghan partner, and increasing our partnership with Pakistanis who are facing the same threats."

"Afghani's have been fighting there for about 30 years, don't you think they all know how to fight with AK-47's and IED's??... Why are we there???"

30 years!? They've been booting foreign dumbass invaders for 2000 years, at least. I remember reading an article in a gun magazine during the Russian attempt about Afghani native gunsmiths, who could make an AK copy with a piece of train track, a human powered lathe and some files.

If they don't have foreign invaders to fight, they fight each other. It's what they DO.
