BP claims administrator in Louisiana to answer questions

wwl.com

The man who will oversee the $20 billion dollar BP claims fund is in Louisiana today. Ken Feinberg says wants to get close to the people who need the money.

The Obama administration selected Feinberg for his considerable experience in these matters: he is the administration's "pay czar" for the executives of corporations that took taxpayer-funded bailouts, and he handled the 9/11 survivors' fund. Feinberg says in order to do this right, you have to get close to the people.

"You cannot run this program from Washington," said Feinberg. "It will not work from Washington. You have to come to the Gulf. You've got to listen and learn."

Feinberg will meet with the public to talk about the claims process at the Larose Civics Center at 307 E. 5th Street at noon, then in Violet at 4:30 at the Christian Fellowship Church on E. Judge Perez.
