DRBES, that is Intel hype again
The PII without L2 Cache has a lower level of performance when K6+ and K6/3D will be increasing performance . The fact that Intel is doing this indicates they recognise their cost are too high in comparison with AMD / Cyrix etc.. When it is ready for sale the competition will have a higher level of performance ,

Brian
PS don't forget AMD's price discounts a lot of bad press.

DRBES, I don't think the news from Compaq thread is so bad.

Cheap Pentium II-266 in 3rd quarter

Socket 7 266MHz K6 with cache will outperform p2-266 without cache, and we'll have that in December.

Pentium II with internal L2 cache in "2nd half

From what I understand even the "vanilla" K6-3D due in first half is supposed to have this. And, don't think they add their FPU enhancements (MMX2, like AMD 3D instructions) until '99 (saw in Boot Magazine).

February Price Cuts
They're only dropping the MMX-233 from $300 to $294. AMD sure better be producing mostly 233 and 266 by then or we're dead meat.
