Yeah, the rivalry is pretty intense! I remember the first Clemson game I ever attended. A guy I worked with at the time was a big Clemson fan. He lived in Anderson, SC. I drove up there to meet with him before heading over to Clemson. You couldn't mistake his house. He had Tiger Paws painted in his driveway. A Clemson basketball goal and orange everywhere. When I went into his house, the walls were painted orange, the curtains had tiger paws on them, that damn Tiger Rag song was blaring and I thought this guy was nuts. I never saw anyone so wrapped up in a sport. I'm a Boston fan and I never saw anything like that.

I found out how big college sports are in the south. Wow!

Clemson was playing Duke! I rooted for Duke, in Death Valley! I wasn't appreciated. Duke upset Clemson in that game. Blew my mind. Duke doesn't beat anybody in football. Clemson fans, after the game, were vandalizing Duke supporters cars. That's when my hatred for Clemson started.

I've been to a lot of Carolina football games and never saw anything like that. Maybe it happens, I just never saw it. I did see it at Clemson.

I've softened up in my old age. The hatred isn't there anymore. I've learned to respect Clemson's ability on the field. I try to keep the focus on the sports activities and not the fans. After all, I hear nobody compares with the Duke Crazies and I'm a Duke fan in basketball, much to the dismay of my nephew who just graduated from North Carolina.
