Karzai's behavior will likely undergo a change after his first meeting with "the General". My sense is that we are one year away from the troop withdrawal deadline. During this year all that the General has got to do is to demonstrate considerable progress in achieving our goals. Should that be the case, the American people will readily provide him an extension of that deadline. The "poppy seed" culture is a greater and a very different kind of challenge in Afghanistan that the challenge posed by the Sunnis in Iraq. But since Petraeus is already familiar with the culture in that region, he starts with a leg up.
