Good and evil are relative terms. Otherwise, in every dispute or war one of the sides would be operating AGAINST "the pangs of conscience"--and any research will show immediately that this is not the case. Indeed, when Muslims and Jews or Christians clash as they have throughout centuries, the fight is considered HOLY and doing GOD'S work. Fanatics on either side will fight with the white heat of Divine Justification--with a conscience as unsullied and pure as the driven snow. And not a pang in sight...

Conscience, of course, is shaped by culture and community/family values so it often leads in irrational directions.
