Common sense - you dont tell your enemy when you are leaving. What if you tell the enemy when you are leaving and you don't leave. The enemy in this case is already aware that US cannot sustain a military presence halfway around the world for over 10 years. So whether you tell them or not, they are not as dumb as you think. They are prepared to wait it out. On the contrary, by setting a deadline, it sends a signal to Hamid Karzai and his folks to get their arse in gear or perish. It looks like they have decided to side with the Taliban. And Obama is doing what the American people want him to do which get the job done within a set time and start focussing on US jobs.
