If you read my notes, you would know that I've been calling for all the skimmers in the world to be deployed.

I haven't been reading your notes, but I have been on the same rant since the beginning. I was posting on Chinu's thread and sioux Pals thread. I finally drove Chinu nuts I guess, as he finally banned me-lol. And he is a good decent guy, but he felt we should just trust BP and Obama and couldn't stand to hear otherwise??

Funny how many people do not understand the gravity of the problem in the gulf. Tejek, whom I have the greatest respect for, still doesn't see it as a travesty and defends the response.

Stockman Scott was one of the few who saw the danger from day one.

It was nuts not to get every skimmer in the world the first week. HOw anyone could not see the importance of that just plain blows my mind!

BP talks about spending 2.6 billion so far.

They should have spent 2.6 billion on skimmers alone the first two weeks! And the government should have made sure they did.

The monetary cost to the gulf will be in the trillions and the cost to the earth incalculable. We are leaving the earth a shithole for our kids and should be ashamed of ourselves e.g the massive pollution of the oceans and earth.

Deforestation, global warming, Pacif ocean garbage dump and acidification.

BP didn't want to do anymore clean up than forced to, as they did not want to pay for it and they would be liable at $4,300 per arrel if people found out how much oil was really flowing out of the hole.

So the government has to force BP to hire the skimmers or hire them themselves, one way or the other.

I think BP was hoping to stop the flow sooner and wanted to cover up the magnitude of the oil flow as they had to pay, as mentioned, $4,300 per barrel in penalties. They were hoping to break it up with disperants and then let the ocean wash it away.

$4,300 per barrel for 1,000 barrels is a lot less than for 100,000 barrels.

But it all got away from them and now it is too late. The gulf has been devastated.

And Tad Allen is not the type of guy to just start ordering hundreds of skimmers. Too risky politically. He did not get to where he is by taking big risks.

But that is what they should have done. Should do now.
