That is like saying, we have had this wild party, spent (wasted) a lot of money, got pillaged (or worse), and created a bubble economy where a few people made a lot of money (thanks to Reagan and Bush). Th bubble has burst. Large segments of society are hurting. People are starving (poor).

Now we have to pay for all this. The remedy is to pull back and starve the poor. We can't go on like this.

That is one way to look at it.
