It makes sense that if you implemented an over night removal program and if the estimated number of working illegals is anywhere near accurate, it would shut down the Southwest and then some.

That is an unrealistic scenario though. What is realistic is to issue work visas to those who can prove their employment is vital to the success of enterprise or service organizations, even households (America has never been hesitant to implement such accommodations where justified). With 20% unemployment in the USA, there should be no problem filling most of the vital work positions. Many citizens now on unemployment have been displaced by the illegal work force.

The claim that there are no Americans who will do 'that kind of work' is a myth, born in bigotry of the worst kind, but certainly where there are shortages, or a demonstrable need, work visas could be made available. Illegal is necessary only as long as we want it to be, and as long as we are complicit in the system we will want it to be necessary.

The solutions are simple even if they may be painful. Stop using illegal drugs and prostitutes, the war in Mexican will be over in short over...soon as vendettas are worked out. Stop running interference for employers operating illegally and the illegal work force will not have a reason to cross the border.
