3M Guidance Gets A Lift

Conglomerate hikes second quarter forecast.


3M hiked its second quarter forecast late Monday.

The company's new sales forecast beats analyst expectations with anticipated sales in a range of $6.6 billion to $6.75 billion.

3M ( MMM - news - people ) said organic sales volume is now expected to grow by 16% to 18%, vs. its prior forecast for 10% to 12% growth. Full second quarter results will be released on July 22.

Also late Monday, Micron Technology ( MU - news - people ) posted fiscal third quarter earnings of $939 million, or $0.92 per share, versus a loss in the same quarter last year of $301 million, or $0.37 per share.

U.S. credit-rating upgrades are poised to exceed downgrades this quarter for the first time since before credit markets froze as the economic recovery boosts company profits.

That's significant. Good news.
