Let me add a second comment here as based on the piece Dale posted this morning on the differences between British and American thinking. That article suggested that the British way is to share in the pain - both rich and poor. I agree. We cannot escape pain and had Obama put forth an honest share the pain message we could tackle all kinds of problems. Instead Krugman seems to think we can get out of this without pain and so we go from one stimulus to another - an endless increase in debt without the pain of tackling the inherent problems.
