Chancels, good point, but don't fall for the propaganda.

america is NOT broke because of unemployment.

we are flat *ss broke because of various looting schemes by the elite that control government, primarily the financial elite that sit behind the federal reserve and the wall street banks.

the looting has been going on for decades, it has just recently hit a crescendo.

i think your choice of and example to show wasteful government spending could be much better.

the bigs get off while the smalls fight amongst each other - now you know why the media loves pitting small against small in our society.

watch the life of brian and how the jews were at each others throats and giving the romans (the real tyrants!) a pass.

Bingo, Chancels. Evidently, us "small people" are just stupid and folks like Athreya are the geniuses that got us into this mess. But you know what? I paid off my house today and I have no debt whatsoever and enough to retire on. I have been responsible. If I lived like our government lives then I'd be in a world of hurt and out on the street instead of sitting comfortably in my house that is paid off.

Economics is not hard. Spend less than you earn. Balance your checkbook. Put something away for a rainy day. If you borrow, make sure you have an appreciating asset or enterprise as collateral, and make sure you pay the loan back. Invest in your future through education and through staying healthy. I've lived my life using these simply principles and I've taught my kids to do the same. Maybe our government should go back to basics like that and ditch the pointy headed economists that have run our country off the cliff.
