Summary Box: Manufacturing Growth Slows in June
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: July 1, 2010

GROWTH SLOWS: The Institute for Supply Management, an industry trade group, said its manufacturing index slipped to 56.2 in June from 59.7 in May.

HOW COME?: Production isn't climbing as fast. The burst of new orders for supplies and equipment as companies came out of the deep freeze of the recession is dropping off.

AROUND THE WORLD: The momentum is also slowing globally, surveys show. In China, less demand for exports and the government's retreat from stimulus policies is cooling manufacturing. Industrial growth also slowed slightly in the 16 countries using the euro and the United Kingdom.
