Consciousness is a concept, which isn’t adding anything in the current vein of discussion, except that we use conceptual language to help explain our experience. Conscious awareness is wholly present in all of experience at some level or another. We can bring one aspect or another of our awareness to the foreground to provide for a more lucid experience. Morality is naturally embedded in consciousness so that human beings share an awareness of good and bad as it is associated with experience. Human conscience is the overlapping concept we use to consider morality in the context of consciousness. We can hold an issue up and examine it because we have a common concept about what would bring some situation to be viewed as good or bad. We are also able to consider specific actions in this light and have developed vast systems of jurisprudence, which we continue to codify into legal manifestations, culminating in court rooms in civilized society, which many of us figure to be falling far short of perfect justice, not because we disagree on what is good or bad in theory, but because experience, even one episode of experience, is too rich for us to account for in all manner and dimension with due and just consideration … a skepticism regarding ‘because it’s the law,’ nags at a heart intuiting what ought to be, when law ceases to be morally resolute.
